Industrial Archaeology is the fieldwork aspect of the history of industry, technology and transport

John van Laun Associates offers a broad range of industrial archaeological topics including survey (in all forms), research, analysis and interpretation, as well as consultancy and funding bids.  We have worked for a number of public bodies including. Cadw (Welsh Historic Monuments), English Heritage, Forestry Commission, British Waterways and a number of Local Authorities.   Our scope can be related to the conservation and interpretation of industrial landscapes, through individual monuments to statutory reports for the potential redevelopment of inner city sites.

With regard to historical subject matter we have reported on heavy industry (coal and ironmaking), light industry (textiles and ceramics), transport (canals and railways), sources of power (water and steam), workers’ housing and services.

Our reports aim at communicating with a variety of professions (archaeologists, planners, craftsmen, engineers and laypersons) and our Guides (produced for the general public) are concise and well illustrated..
